We are reaching out to sports teams and community groups to help us meet our volunteer needs on race day. Call for High School Students - Get Involved!
The Miles with the Giant race weekend provides many great ways for local high school students to get involved in this exciting running event.
Need volunteer hours towards a school credit? Help out on race weekend as a volunteer for set-up and take down, at runner registration, to provide direction along the race course, or at runner storage/lost & found.
Want to run the event? Register to run individually or enter a school team of 5 people in the marathon-relay. School teams will compete for coveted bragging rights and a trophy to display in your school's trophy case.
Musicians, Dancers & Cheerleaders: We need entertainers to add some pizzazz along the race course and at the start/finish line. Buskers, bands, cheerleaders and dance troops are welcome to strut your stuff for our runners and spectators.

2nd Annual Dirty Girls Thunder Bay
103.5 The Thunder is proud to support the 2nd Annual Dirty Girls Thunder Bay. This 5k obstacle filled fun run through the mud, in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, is Saturday August 9th at This Old Barn in Murillo.
The course and obstacles are being designed and manned by members of the Lakehead Superior Scottish Regiment.
This year, the event is 100% just for fun. No timing, just a fantastic time for the girls, all in support of a great cause.
Registration for the 5 lady teams will be Saturday January 18th, 9:30-6 Sunday, January 19th Noon-5pm at Intercity Mall in the Promotions Court. Registration fee is $60 plus HST ($67.80) per person Please note, last year’s event sold out within 3 hours, so come out early to ensure your team gets a spot.
This is a ladies only event, however anyone is able to come out and watch the event and enjoy the day! Spectators be sure to come ready to enjoy a great day filled with music, amazing food provided by This Old Barn, a beer and cocktail area, shopping, pampering and more!
Admission to watch the event is $10 per vehicle at the gate.

Motors and Muscles Draw 2014
The 2014 Motors and Muscles Raffle in support of Our Kids Count. This year only 650 tickets will be sold offering a chance to win $33,614 dollars in cash and prizes including the Grand Prize of a 2014 Harley-Davidson Classic FXSB Motorcycle valued at $29,114.
Net proceeds from ticket sales will go to Our Kids Count, A kitchen for the Community at 704 McKenzie Street.

Trail of Hearts 2014
Saturday, May 24, 2014 beginning at 8:00 a.m. Registration is encouraged as well as pledging and contributions for the Northern Hearts. Funds raised will enable Northern Hearts to decrease the incidence of heart disease through preventative programming and educational workshops.
The run/ hike will take place at beautiful Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. There will be three distances for participants to choose from: a 22km, 12km or a 5km. The free transportation on the ‘Fun Bus’ will be leaving from the Trowbridge parking lot at 5:30 am to transport you to the event. Registrants can take part in a day full of trails, friends, fun, BBQ and prizes!

Conquer the Fort MUDRUN
103.5 The Thunder is proud to support Conquer the Fort MUDRUN. Saturday July 12th, 2014 at Fort William Historical Park.
This event is in support of Special Olympics Ontario in partnership with the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Conquer the Fort is a funtastic 7km Mud Run complete with tonnes of obstacles to challenge your inner mudder! Open to both men and women, teams or individuals you can expect to Conquer the Fort through muck, madness and mayhem! The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 12th at Fort William Historical Park.

St. John Ambulance is springing into summer this year with the launch of the annual "Spring into Summer" Trailer Draw. All proceeds from the trailer draw will support St. John Ambulance's Community Service Programs which include the Medical First Response Division (MFR), Car Seat Safety Inspection Program, Therapy Dog Program, School Safety and Education Programs, and the Youth Cadet and Crusader Program.
The St John Ambulance trailer volunteers will be at various locations and events throughout the coming months, giving you the opportunity to see the Jayco Jay Flight Travel Trailer, and purchase your ticket. Tickets are only $10 and are available at St. John Ambulance, The Power Centre, Smith’s RV Centre, Wilderness Supply and Lakehead Communications.
The grand prize draw will be on Wednesday June 20th at 2pm, at St. John’s Ambulance. In addition to the grand prize there is also a Second, a Third and early Bird Draws. Beautifully-restored to GT Equipment Group specifications in 2000, this 1967 Mustang Fastback is a joy to drive. Its numbers-matching 289cid V8, complete with a 4-barrel Motorcraft AFB carb, headers, working Boss hood scoop, and dual exhaust gives it superb acceleration, while a new electronic ignition ensures easy starts. Disc brakes help it stop on a dime. An upgraded front suspension, extra leaf springs at the rear and traction bars make this car handle the road like few other Mustangs. The odometer shows just 110,600 miles. A recent appraisal notes that the hood, doors and trunk are properly fitted and fender areas free of obvious imperfections. The metallic paint is in good condition with no signs of rippling or orange peel. A few, very minor, paint flaws on the hood can only be seen on close inspection. The colour is Candy Apple Red. The black hood scoop (fully functional) and front spoiler were not standard on this car, but they look great. Also available for installation, should you wish, is a 1969 rear window louver. It rides on Cooper Cobra G/T white-letter radials (235/60 R14 front and rear) mounted on Rally rims and hubcaps (all in great shape). Inside, a new deluxe black interior was installed when the car was restored a few years ago; a single tear on the front seat is the only obvious flaw. This 1967 Mustang Fastback is a high quality, fully-restored, modern classic that begs to be driven. It’s been well maintained and reconditioned to keep it roadworthy, reliable and stunning to look at.

Founded in 1987, Hospice Northwest is dedicated to providing compassionate support to individuals and their families living with a life limiting illness or those in need of grief and bereavement support.
They tailor their services to meet individual needs and to lessen the burdens of suffering, loneliness and grief.
Hike for Hospice is a unique national fundraising event held across Canada that brings together organizations working together in hospice palliative care to raise funds and awareness in their community!

Rock 94 is proud to support ‘40K in 40 days’
‘40k In 40 Days – Help us cut head and neck cancer out’
This fundraising initiative aims to raise $40,000 in 40 Days in support of the Exceptional Cancer Care Campaign at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Michael Muia, owner of Michael’s Hair Design and Day Spa, was diagnosed with tongue cancer this past fall. Following his diagnosis, Michael shared the news on his Facebook. Almost immediately good wishes came flooding in, with likes and shares at a rate the took Michael by surprise.
This outpouring of care and compassion inspired Michael to start a community fundraiser to support head and neck cancer care at the Health Sciences Centre through the Thunder Bay Regional Sciences Foundation’s Exceptional Cancer Care Campaign.
With Help from his family and friends, Michael’s Fundraising Campaign, titled Forty in Forty, is set to run from March 17 to April 25 and aims to raise at least $40,000 in 40 days.
There are pledge sheets at salons and other businesses across the city for people to donate by cash or cheque. Starting March 17th, there will also be a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/40kin40days that will link to a page where you can donate online.
Michael feels grateful for being given a second chance. His hope is for Forty In Forty to spread awareness about head and neck cancer, of which there have been many cases in Thunder bay, and to support exceptional diagnosis, treatment and research locally to give residents the very best chance to survive cancer.
The 40 day fundraising campaign will wrap up on Friday April 25th, with a party at the CLE Coliseum, 8pm-1am.
The night starts with a fashion & hair show at 8 p.m. featuring Thunder Bay's trendiest salons - then keep the party goin' with live entertainment, food, and prizes! Tickets are $5, available at participating businesses.

St Patrick High School - Wizard Of Oz
St Patrick High school presents the magical story of four strangers, one witch, and an impossible journey- The Wizard Of Oz.
The show runs from May 5th-10th in the Selkirk Auditorium (Located in St Pats High School) Tickets are $18 and can be purchased from the St Pats main office. The students and staff will be donating all proceeds to Camp Quality NWO and Our Kids Count. With an extremely talented group of performers this is sure to be a fantastic show.
Auditions started at the beginning of the school year. The show was cast in early October, and rehearsals started right away. The show is musically directed by Danny Johnson and music will be performed by the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. The show has been choreographed by BOUNCE Productions.
The decision was made to perform the Wizard of Oz in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the film. There is a whole team that has come together to work on this magical production, over 100 students and 50 staff.
41st Annual Folklore Festival
103.5 The Thunder is proud to sponsor The 41st Annual Folklore Festival presented by the Multicultural Association Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 at the Fort William Gardens

Festival hours are Saturday, 12 noon to 11 pm and Sunday 12 noon to 7 pm. The Festival is fully accessible. A Pre-Festival display and Press Conference including Entertainment will be held the week prior to the Festival at Intercity Shopping Centre with the Press Conference on April 26. Programs including the Sponsors, Entertainment Schedule, Food and Exhibit Booths will be distributed. Opening ceremonies, with the “Parade of Nations”, dignitaries, the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association Board of Directors, and Sponsors, will be held at 2 pm Saturday May 3 on the Main Stage.
More than 1,000 volunteers assist in planning, and preparing the site decorations, stage, food and exhibit booths, the Children’s Area, promotion and organization. Because of these special people, Festival visitors have the unique opportunity to experience this exquisite multicultural mosaic, the largest presentation in our Region.
